eMagazines and eNewspapers are digital editions of popular magazines and newspapers. These online resources are free for residents of the Toowoomba Region and are available from the library 24/7.

Benefits of eMagazines and eNewspapers include:

  • no checkout limits

Libby by OverDrive is a free mobile app that enables our library members to borrow and download eAudiobooks, eBooks and eMagazines. The app incorporates a dedicated eBook and eMagazine reader and an eAudiobook player.

  1. Install the Libby by OverDrive app.
  2. Add a library (Toowoomba Region Libraries).
  3. Add your library card - enter your library card number (barcode) and PIN.

Browsing and borrowing

  1. Select Explore to browse titles.
  2. Tap on a title cover to borrow.
  3. Tap the title on your shelf to download and/or read your eMagazine. Help on downloading with Libby.

Managing your loans

Loans and renewals

eMagazines have no checkout limits, which means you can borrow as many as you like at any time. Borrowed eMagazines will expire at the end of their lending period (21 days), but you'll be able to renew them if you need more time to read.

Renewing loans and returning titles early

  1. Tap Shelf.
  2. Find the title and tap Manage Loan.
  3. Select Return Early to return the title or Renew Loan to renew your loan.

Using a computer (PC or Mac) - read online

To read online on a PC or Mac computer, you will need your library card and PIN to set up or sign in to your account:

  1. In your web browser go to libbyapp.com to get started using Libby. 
  2. Add a library (Toowoomba Region Libraries) and add your library card - enter your library card number (barcode) and PIN.

If you cannot use libbyapp.com you can use our Toowoomba Region Libraries platform instead. This alternative has the same titles as Libby, but offer slightly different features and device compatibility.

Using a mobile device

Instructions to install and set up PressReader on your smartphone or tablet:

  1. Install the PressReader app (available from Google Playstore or the Apple App Store)When you first open the app, hundreds of free publications are available. But, in order to receive free access to the full collection, you’ll need to connect to 'Library - Toowoomba Regional Council'.
  2. Tap the 'Sign In' button.
  3. On the page that opens, tap the 'Library Card' button.
  4. Tap the 'Select Library' or 'Group' drop-down menu. Search and select your library, enter your library card number and PIN, and then tap the 'Sign In' button.
  5. 'New User' pop-up - close (Tap X) or cancel this screen. There is no requirement to enter an email address or password. ** If after closing the new user screen, the 'Sign in' screen is still open, close this screen.
  6. Setup is now complete, either tap the 'Select Publication' button or close the screen to commence browsing titles. 
  7. Search for specific publications with the search bar, or browse publications from around the world. Tap the 'Countries', 'Categories', 'Languages', or 'Types' tab and select an option. Repeat this process to further refine the presented publications, and then tap a publication when you find something that interests you.

Complimentary access is provided for 30 days. When your 30 day complimentary access expires, simply sign back in to get another 30 days free access. To close the complimentary access pop-up and commence browsing available titles, either tap 'Select Publication' or the 'X' in the top-left corner.

Setting a publication for auto-delivery

Publications can be automatically delivered to your device:

  1. Select the publication you would like delivered.
  2. Tap the slider to turn on automatic delivery of all new issues.

Automatically remove back issues

Back issues can be automatically removed from your device:

  1. Select 'Settings'.
  2. Select 'Remove Issues'.
  3. Select the number of issues to keep.

Using a computer

Instructions to open and use PressReader on your computer: 

  1. Open a web browser and go to https://www.pressreader.com.
  2. Click 'Sign in' (top right-hand corner).
  3. Select 'Library' or 'Group'.
  4. Enter 'Toow' in the 'Select Library' search panel and select 'Library – Toowoomba Regional Council'.
  5. In the 'Library' or 'Group' sign in - enter your library card (membership) number and PIN and select 'Sign in'.
  6. 'New User' pop-up - select 'Cancel' to close this screen. There is no requirement to enter an email address or password.
  7. A complimentary access window will open. Click 'Select Publication' to commence browsing available titles.

  1. Go to NewsBank.
  2. Enter your library barcode number and select Login.

About NewsBank

NewsBank has three formats/source types:

  • text-only coverage, for which the archives of each newspaper date back to the 2000’s, 1990’s or 1980’s
  • web-only content, for newspapers that are now online only, as well as for newspapers that continue in print and have web articles that don’t make the print edition
  • image editions (full digital replicas) of major Australian newspapers.

Getting started

  1. Install the Flipster app (available from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store).
  2. Open the app and tap 'Get Started'.
  3. There is no need to allow Flipster access to your device location.
  4. Type 'Toowoomba' into the search library navigation bar at the top.
  5. Select 'Toowoomba City Region Libraries'.
  6. Enter your library card into 'Patron ID' panel and select 'Sign In'.
  7. Select the issue to read/download.

Using a computer

Sign in

  1. Go to Ebsco and enter your library card into the 'Patron ID' panel and click 'Sign in'.
  2. Once you are signed in, browse and select past and current issues.
