Queensland’s Chief Entrepreneur Julia Spicer is the keynote speaker at the Toowoomba Creative Industry Summit at the Empire Theatre on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Ms Spicer is a vibrant rural entrepreneur who has a passion for promoting and assisting businesses to transform. She is the founder of three regional businesses based at Goondiwindi.

Ms Spicer’s role focuses on innovation and encouraging more entrepreneurship across the state by supporting all levels of business from their first steps to assisting government and industry.

Ms Spicer’s address will draw on her wealth of experience working with businesses which has contributed to vibrant and viable enterprises across rural and regional Australia.

The one-day summit will focus on the intersection between art, culture, technology and entrepreneurship and how aspects of the various sectors connect and improve the Region’s lifestyle characteristics.

The Toowoomba Creative Industry Summit is an immersive, educational experience that has been designed to assemble a diverse range of people to connect, collaborate and work towards common goals.

Speakers will focus on some of the key goals identified in Toowoomba Regional Council’s coming Cultural Strategy, with panel discussions allowing the Region’s creative professionals to discuss the sector’s current successes and challenges.

Panel discussions will draw on the expertise of creatives across many disciplines including: Tim Panitz, digital and tech from The Empire Theatres; Charlie Hocroft, animation artist; Stephanie Piper, creative technologist; Ben Tupas, digital media producer and artist; Ruth Atkinson, Visual Focus managing director; Tilly Mykat marketing expert from Oh Tilly; Ben Yong, Wulfe Marketing director and Brendan Goleby and Nury Barros from Toowoomba.com.au

Attendees will hear from Rebecca Statton, The Toowoomba Gallery; Lorraine White, Whitelane Textiles; Alicia Vohland, Windy Acres; Metiisto chocolatier Trevor Smith and Shannon Bauwens, who is a Bunya Mountains Ranger coordinator and cultural heritage practitioner.

Coupled with the summit, workshops showcasing the Region’s creative mediums will be open to the public on Saturday, April 22 at various locations across the Region.
