An exhibition examining how memories can be transformed into art will be showcased when Amanda Digweed unveils her latest creations in The Apron Project.
The exhibition will be displayed at Crows Nest Gallery from November 16 to December 11.
The exhibition investigates the process by which Amanda transforms memories that have been gifted to her into tangible objects. The materials and form for each work have been informed by the memory and emotions evoked from their words.
Amanda recently completed her Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual) at the University of Southern Queensland.
“My practice is founded on memory and identity, interpreted through a range of materials and processes, such as printmaking, sculpture and mixed media techniques,” Amanda said.
“An interest in autobiographical memory stems from a natural inquisitiveness about how memories influence our identity.
“Working from my home studio, I turn memories into a visual language for the audience to make their own narrative from an emotional connection to the work.
“Currently, I produce work for local and regional exhibitions. As the current Toowoomba Art Society president this enables me to be closely involved with artists across the local community and Toowoomba Region.
“My teaching is limited to providing demonstrations and instruction in several media from printmaking, basketry, fibre arts, artist books, and wire work.”
Amanda lives and creates her works in the Toowoomba Region, where she has been a practising artist for 20 years.
The exhibition’s free Artist Talk is on Sunday, November 20 at 11am.
This is a free event and no bookings are required.
